Child marriage is a human rights crisis. It was legal in 43 states in America up until when we launched UNSEEN HOUSEWIVES. It actively helped changing legislation in 3 States, Vermont, Connecticut, and Michigan. Now, 40 States that still allows child marriage. While the American population seemed determined to ignore the issue, we translated it into a form they can’t turn away from: reality television.
UNSEEN HOUSEWIVES is a fake reality show based on the real stories of child-marriage survivors in the United States. Child actors recreate the true experiences of real child-marriage survivors, set against familiar tropes of reality TV.
UNSEEN HOUSEWIVES was launched on International Women’s Day at the UNITED NATIONS Commission on the Status of Women, introduced by NOBEL-PRIZE winner Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, streamed to thousands of people from hundreds of countries.
